I did quite a bit of online research prior to purchasing this Sony boombox and I kept coming back to it. Yep... it's kinda ugly and... yep, it has a very small LCD display.
But, it kept getting the best user reviews of any boomboxes I researched. I bought this to use on a deck at my lake place and I have not been disappointed. I primarily use it to play my mp3 player (Zune) thru and I am pleased. Even the ugly/teenager look has started to grow on me! The sound is quite frankly astounding for a boombox. If you want the best sound available in a boombox, hands down this is your choice. The cheezy little LCD display really doesn't bother me. It does enough to be functional and frankly what percentage of your boombox time is spent looking at the display? It is all about the sound quality and this is really the only boombox to satisfy even a mild audiophile. Buy it now before it goes out of production. I really don't think you will have any regrets.

I've had this radio/cassette/cd boombox for 3 years now and it still performs exceptionally.
There are many rare features on this unit that have long disappeared from other so-called boomboxes, such as a line input feature and a multiple equalizer/ amplifier system. It also has a sleep feature (which I've never bothered to use) and has an impressive 4 speaker stereo output.
The deal maker for me was the line-input jack (which, as been already stated, is the 1/8 jack.) This is precisely what you'll need if you're going to connected it to your computer. I had been sitting on boxes of interviews on cassettes that I had no way of transferring. This radio instantly gave me the opportunity to digitize the recordings along with software I previously installed.
The sound is rich and woofer system is indeed deep.
If you're in need of a cassette deck with a line-input but don't want to spend $150+, this is a great alternative. (I bought mine from BestBuy in Miami for $69.99 and that was their stock price.)
Great deal, nonetheless.

Wanted a fairly simple boom box for the wife as a kitchen radio. Its a little bigger then the one it replaced. Plays most of the CD's I burn on my PC even though it says it won't (the next model is advertised as having this capability). That was a chance I took and came out on the lucky side. Volume is fine. It seems most boom boxes don't go as loud as the old ones. With the line-in I can hook up my little MP3 player and get amplified sound. Solid player.

I purchased this to replace a ten yr old sharp boombox, so there is no real comparison. It is used mainly on weekends outdoors at our summer home. The sound quality is truly outstanding. The other reason I bought it was the MP3 jack on the unit. It is great for listening and I have had loads of compliments on it. I plug in the MP3, set it to random-all, and it plays a better mix of my music than I could getting up and flipping CDs. Plus I don't have to lug my CD case there anymore. It's only drawbacks, as others have said, are its size and the small, unlit LCD screen. I do not use batteries, so I cannot rate that aspect. This baby is big and weighs about 20 lbs.

We bought this boom box because it plays tapes as well as CD's. We are in an area where radio reception is a problem. We were hoping for the best, but we still cannot get one of the stations we wanted. Others come in well. We are happy with this purchase.
